Hi Guys,
I thought I would start this new blog with a fave recipe of mine, me and my brother Jenson made these for the Kids Make and Bake Club last year. It's a simple recipe to follow although at a couple of steps you may need an adult to help you as it can get a bit fiddly.
To make 12 of these yummy treats you will need:
Plain Shortbread:
150g plain flour
½ tsp salt
50g caster sugar
125g unsalted butter at room temperature
Chocolate Shortbread:
125g plain flour
25g cocoa powder
½ tsp salt
50g caster sugar
125g unsalted butter at room temperature
Plus as many chocolate chips as you like depending how chocolatey you want it!
For the plain shortbread.
1)Mix together the salt, flour and sugar.
2)Next rub the butter into the flour. This is a very messy job!
3)Once combined, roll into a ball and put it in a bowl in the fridge.
For the chocolate shortbread.
1) Sieve together the cocoa powder and flour.
2) Add the sugar and salt.
3) Next rub the butter into the flour mix. Again this is a very very messy job!
4) Once combined, roll all into a ball and put it in a bowl in the fridge.
5) Leave both shortbread doughs to chill for around 30 minutes.
For The Twirls.
1) After 30 minutes get an adult to preheat the oven to Gas 4 and remove the doughs from the fridge.
2) Roll out both dough balls into similar rectangle shapes, both should be about the same size. Make sure you roll it onto some greaseproof paper this will make the rolling in the next step a lot easier.
3) Here's where you will need an adult, you need to get the chocolate dough on top of the plain dough. We found flipping it over quickly was the best option (but it took 2 of us to figure this out, sorry it isn't on the video, but Mum is my camera, man!)
4) Next scatter chocolate chips over the dough before rolling them, in a swiss roll type action.
5) Now cut your 'roll' into approximately 12 pieces and put them onto a greased baking tray in the oven for around 20-30 minutes, remember to get an adult to help you, you don't want to burn yourself.
6) Once golden remove from the oven and leave to cool down before sharing with your friends and family (or eat them all yourself!)
